GROWING GINGER

Land preparation

The land should be cleared and plowed thoroughly. The land should be plowed at least 12 inches deep. Later the grower should build ridges 12 inches high and 24 inches respectively. The characteristics of the planting materials required should be;

1_Unwashed pieces of ginger of about 2 inches of weight

2_Every piece of ginger should have 2 eyes or buds 

3_ The pieces should be pre-sprouted to about 1inch

 Planting

The pieces of ginger should be planted in the trenches. They have planted 10_12 inches apart at least 1000ibs of ginger can be used to plant an acre of land. A month after planting apply 1 tablespoon of compound fertilizers to every plant. Apply the fertilizers for the first two months during the growth stage. If the farmer is not conversant with the type of fertilizer to use the farmer should contact or visit a farmhouse. 

 Maintenance

The land where the ginger is being grown should be rotated with other crops. Planting the ginger crop in the same spot year after year will use one set of nutrients in the soil and increase the fungal infection. Ginger can be rotated mostly by legume crops to bring back nutrients. 

Harvesting

Ginger is harvested 9 months after planting, Before harvesting free the land from all the grass and any other unwanted weed in the farm.

Take a fork and insert the fork deep beneath the clump and lift the soil carefully.
